Fernandina & Isabela Islands

Another incredible day in the Galapagos! After the walk on Punta Espinoza early this morning, we immediately set forth on an outstanding Zodiac ride along the dramatic coastline of Fernandina Island. There we encountered penguins, innumerable marine iguanas, cormorants, and even five flightless cormorants. However, as outstanding as the creatures above water were, it was definitely the under sea life that made today’s adventures memorable.

Earlier this morning before we dropped anchor, we were joined by a pod of bottlenose dolphins swimming leisurely alongside the ship. Later in the morning, after we’d all rushed back to the ship from the walk to don our snorkeling gear, we had a tremendous opportunity to swim with a variety of sea creatures. These included a virtual swarm of sea turtles, and last but not least, a few of us were rewarded with the fantastic opportunity to swim with penguins and the curious cormorant shown in the picture. Yet another amazing day here in this incredible archipelago.
