Genovesa Island
What a fantastic last full day of our cruise in the Galapagos. The view of hundreds of seabirds flying along the cliffs of Darwin Bay was overwhelming: red-footed boobies, great frigatebirds with their incredible acrobatics in the air, red-billed tropicbirds all around us. Along the trail behind the landing beach we discovered lots of juvenile red-footed boobies in the red mangroves, as well as immature frigatebirds sitting on their nests. The beautiful plumage of the swallow-tailed-gulls was one of our favorites. At Prince Phillip’s steps, our visit in the afternoon, we discovered a colony of Nazca boobies initiating their breeding season. There was an incredible activity of the seabirds along the coast: Audubon shearwaters, storm petrels, great frigatebirds, noddy terns, amongst others. A short Zodiac tour uncovered juvenile tropicbirds and noddy tern chicks on the ledges of the cliffs.
On our way back to the Polaris, we experienced a magnificent sunset that we will never forget.
