Santiago Island

A black sandy beach, black like the young lava of the fields just across the bay. This is because of the flow situated in front of our landing beach. It’s a beautiful paho-hoe flow that was probably formed sometime between the late 1700’s or the early 1800’s. We know this because pirates and buccaneers did not report any black lava field in that area of Santiago Island. We know it happened before Darwin came to the island, because he described having seen the flow.

Surrounded by lava and sea lions we spent the last afternoon in the Galapagos. It was a sunny day… sunny all afternoon long. The equatorial sun warmed up our feelings, making us wish that it were not the last day. However I am sure this is just the beginning for many of our guests. A New World has been offered to our eyes, and our hearts. This is the commencement of a long life of adventure and love for nature.
