Fernandina Island

It is extremely exciting to be able to experience a natural area in its most pristine state. Fernandina Island with 248 square miles is the third largest island in the archipelago. Despite its big size, Fernandina is at the same time one of the most protected and preserved islands in Galapagos.

This beautiful island is, geologically speaking, very young. It is estimated that Fernandina is only three hundred thousand years old! In this still “in formation” paradise we can observe interesting animal and plant species. These species live out their lives in a very special way. Isolation, remoteness, fragility, magic, are just examples of the words we use while trying to express what we feel while visiting this island. It is always difficult to express feelings. Fernandina always provokes unforgettable feelings in its visitors. The picture today reflects those indescribable feelings. It is fascinating to watch a mother sea lion feeding her babies; not only one, but two pups! Can you imagine all the feelings this scene evokes?
