Floreana Island
I spend so many hours of my Polaris’ weeks admiring the underwater world, that sometimes I question my own real habitat.
I am from the Galapagos, therefore the guests call me endemic. I was born in this archipelago and grew up here. But I don’t know anymore if my world is this beautiful group of volcanoes above water, or the colorful realm beneath.
The creatures of the ocean welcome us as unafraid as those from land. We are part of their surroundings, something as ordinary as a rock or a piece of coral. We can approach the tropical fish, the rays, and even the sharks, and they show no awareness of our presence.
I must not fail to mention the sea lions. They share their rocks and beaches with us, and they share their tidal pools and shores as well.
I am confused sometimes, whether my realm is the sea or if it is the land. In any case, my home is here, in the Galapagos Islands.
