Santiago Island

We are counting down to the start of a New Year; we will soon complete another turn around the sun. Soon it will be 365 more days for the Polaris in these waters which are a part of the Pacific Ocean and 600 nautical miles from mainland Ecuador. One more year where we have made a difference, where our support has produced excellent and successful results in the conservation of this archipelago.

Landing on Santiago is a celebration of our good work in the Galapagos. Hundreds of our guests have joined in the efforts of protecting and saving this enchanted place. This one island is our precious example to the world of how much visitors do care.

The pigs were eradicated last year, many baby tortoises have been repatriated back to their home island, hundreds of acres have been fenced to protect the endemic plants from goat damage, and several endemic species that were considered extinct have been rediscovered.

We have ahead of us a New Year that arrives with new challenges that must be faced. But we know now that anything is possible. We count on all of you for that, as you are our ambassadors from Galapagos.

Three cheers for the coming year in the Galapagos Islands!
