Bartolome and Santiago Islands
Lindblad Expeditions is intensely involved in the conservation of the Galapagos. Our programs include the restoration of the island of Santiago in order to save critically endangered species. However, I believe that another of our programs is equally important. When there is space available, we invite teachers onboard the ship for a trip around the islands. The opportunity for teachers to see for themselves the beauty and splendor of these islands is one of the best ways that we can help the local education.
During this trip I have had one of the best times in my life. One highlight was the chance I had to swim with pilot whales. I also was privileged to guide the Director of the High School that I myself attended. What a pleasure to teach those who have taught me, and share the uniqueness of these islands with people who have lived here for years but never been able to explore. Lindblad’s role in education of the next generation is an important effort. The future of the islands will depend on the continuing support of the powerful network of highly motivated local students. For the preservation of the unique biological diversity of the Galapagos to be a success, we all must work together.
