Bartolome Island

Today is the last full day of this voyage around the Galapagos Islands. Each one of our guests came with their minds full of questions about nature and conservation in Galapagos, and hopefully, these questions have been answered. We anchored early in the morning in a small bay off Bartolome. This island always produces great curiosity among those who visit it. It is not very big, but provides incredible scenic landscapes and views and is considered by many of us naturalists, to be an open book of geology.

Most of our guests joined us for an early morning walk to the summit of Bartolome to observe and learn about its geology. No one was discouraged by the fact that to reach the top we had to climb over 370 wooden steps! The panorama from the summit was well worth our efforts.

Normally, when one comes to the end of a vacation, we have our minds set to leave and may even be looking forward eagerly to home. Unfortunately, for all of those who touch foot on these magical islands, departure is anything but easy. These islands have throughout history been called “enchanted”. And they do seem to put a spell on everyone who visits them. Just by searching the faces of our guests, aglow with happiness and content, we can verify that the spell of “Las Islas Encantadas” is still working, and perhaps now even stronger than ever
