Española Island
Española Island is one of the best places in Galapagos to see many different types of wildlife. This morning we disembarked on the western-most point called Punta Suarez, and along the trail our guests enjoyed taking pictures of the sea lions, marine iguanas and blue-footed boobies. We walked along the coastline and saw many different birds nesting, some with chicks of only a very few days old. We cannot forget a couple of Galapagos hawks nesting as well. This was a fantastic morning outing!
In the afternoon we had very different activities; glass bottom boat outings, snorkeling off the beach, and deep-water snorkeling. The snorkeling overall was fantastic because the water temperature was so pleasant (89 degrees Fahrenheit) and the water visibility was 99%. After the snorkel, most of our guests decided to walk along the very white, coralline beach with many sea lions on it (and a juvenile oystercatcher wandering through). Some of the sea lions were sleeping, but many of the juveniles were playing with the waves and our younger guests, as well as rolling around in the sand. With the camera, I think I took a nice picture of sea lions sharing their space with our Polaris guests.
