Española Island
The sun rose while we were still on our way towards Punta Suarez, Española Island. Today was our first full day immersed in the most unique ecosystem of Galapagos. As soon as we landed on shore we found sea lions, marine iguanas, lava lizards, and mockingbirds. They were all part of the welcome committee.
The morning walk was just wonderful; however, my favorite part of the day is always when we get into the amazing underwater world. Today we had our share of water activities. The glass bottom boat, a beach for the beginner snorkelers and the deep water for those with more experience.
So off I went, to explore the seas, with the underwater camera to try to capture the magic of colors and shapes below the surface. In 77o F water, it is a pleasure to move in this three-dimensional world, and follow the fish that don’t seem to be bothered by our presence. We became part of the colors and the shapes, and I believe the sea creatures enjoyed the odd views of us, new mammals in the water, as much as we enjoyed them.
The picture shows the yellow tailed damselffish protecting her territory.
