Espanola Island
Española island, the oldest island of this archipelago, is also one of the most beautiful islands. Its wildlife is unique! Sea lions, blue-footed boobies and marine iguanas surrounded us during today’s morning outing. Our guests couldn’t believe finding so many animals sharing the same areas with people. We walked to a nice cliff to see a lava formation known as the blowhole. There we saw a big colony of blue-footed boobies doing their courtship and we also saw some Galapagos albatrosses. We had great happenings during the morning hike!
In the afternoon we enjoyed different activities, like snorkeling, glass bottom boating and walking along a beach crowded with sea lions. Our guests that decided to go to the glass bottom boat saw many tropical fish, sea stars, and white coral. We also had the opportunity to see a scorpion fish. The snorkelers went around a rock called “Tortuga” or Turtle Island. Some of them saw sharks and turtles.
We returned on board at sun set, when I had the opportunity to get this nice picture showing the whole area: the place where we did the glass bottom boat, the beach and the rock of the snorlkelers. If you use a little bit of your imagination you will see the shape of a real marine turtle swimming towards Española’s white beach.
