Bartolome and Santiago Islands

After all the activities that we have had today, I have to confess that during the glass-bottom boat outing, something really extraordinary happened. A penguin swam under the glass! Thanks to this accident of good fortune, I realized how hypnotic the ocean is, and even more important, that these rich waters constitute the most important pillar of the Galapagos Marine Reserve. These islands are held together by the water of the Pacific Ocean which gives them life. The penguins are so well adapted to these islands and life at the equator, that it doesn’t matter what time of the day it is or what the temperature of the water is—one can snorkel with penguins without a wet-suit!

Today’s experiences were a testimony to the enthusiastic participation of this group of guests. All week long everybody has joined in all our activities and they have been privileged to an emotional exploration of the ocean and the archipelago. Each experience we have shared celebrates beauty and harmony, and links us together in the responsibility to preserve this magical place. There is reason to feel much hope that future generations will be involved in accomplishing this essential task
