Santa Cruz Island
Between mist and dreams...
I was born and I grew up in Guayaquil, located in mainland Ecuador. I came to work as a Naturalist nine years ago, and since then these islands have become part of my life, part of my very soul.
Yes, it is true that this report is intended to let you know day by day the incredible experiences that our guests are having in a paradise like this. Through the eyes of the Naturalist that writes it, you get to know the place, the feelings, the people and even the soul of the Naturalist behind the keyboard.
It has been my intention many times not to let my personal feelings to get involved in my writing, but I just can’t. Because of that, I have the tendency to often let my feelings, dreams and even childhood events transform themselves into words that cascade through my fingers when typing these reports.
Today my day has been more than special. I don’t always get to see the islands in the way I did today. Mist and fine rain were covering the entire landscape. The giant tortoises were everywhere in the highlands of Santa Cruz, walking through the mist like ghosts of a distant past that scream to be heard. This would be my last week working for a while, since the Polaris is going to dry dock by the end of the week. I will then go to find something to do while I am not here. What would you do when all of a sudden you have to go away from what you love? I could think of many things that would fill up my time, but I doubt they would fill up my soul and the emptiness of being away from wonderland, Galapagos.
Between mist and dream here I am, sitting on a rock that would always be here. Giant tortoises are in the background, and I am wondering if I ever will come back, to see these ancient reptiles in my next life.
The magical mist is covering my back, and between mist and dreams I have discovered what I need, peace in my soul and with myself and sharing it with those that I love and care about ...
