Santa Cruz Island
We have arrived on the island of Santa Cruz, a small town with wonderful people that is getting ready for one of the most well known festivities in the whole world, Christmas. We watched some kids playing around a recently rebuilt park near the ocean, playing with madness and at the same time filling our hearts with screams of joy. It makes one think of how enchanted life is for these people in the middle of nowhere. This morning made me think of that especially, the humility that people can reach only in a place renowned for its nature above everything else. During our incredible afternoon in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island, we spent time watching the very well defined plumage coloration of a Vermillion flycatcher, that at the time was standing on top of the tallest Giant tortoise, situated in an enormous field, populated with an incredible amount of finches. These birds were singing as if announcing the happiness, harmony and equilibrium that may only still exist in very few places in the world. When I refer to harmony, I would like to express how this flycatcher was looking for its prey from the best position possible - on the back of a walking tortoise which lifted all the moths on its way through the grass.
