Isabela and Fernandina Island

Today we had the opportunity to cruise around the most productive and pristine parts of this chain of volcanic islands; Isabela and Fernandina Islands. Today our goal was to find marine mammals as we were sailing to our destination, Punta Vicente Roca. On the way to this magnificent visiting area, we encountered some dolphins. Even though there was some rain, we were still alert to the presence of these marine creatures that might be feeding on our surroundings. Another of our big accomplishments of the morning was to cross the equator line and to have met his majesty Neptune the King! By nine in the morning, we were anchored and getting ready to take Zodiacs to go around the coast of Isabela Island where we encountered dolphins, penguins, fur sea lions, blue-footed boobies and a myriad of many other species. This island shows a great amount of life that goes about in our midst as if we did not exist - just like it was meant to be. By the end of our Zodiac ride, we were all ready to go snorkeling with the marine turtles which are found by the tens in a little cove. Four Zodiacs went out snorkeling, and every single guest arrived with a big smile on their faces, and they kept talking about how great of a place this was. This was an astounding closure to a perfect morning. Of course all this snorkeling opened up our appetite, so the next high light of the day was lunch!

In the afternoon, we were anchored in the bay of the youngest island of the Galápagos, Fernandina. Here we see at least hundreds if not thousands of marine iguanas nesting, sea lions laying everywhere (the stars of the day), and flightless cormorants nesting by the shorelines too. This island was the perfect place to just walk around, sit down and look at the wildlife, observe their innocence and be part of their world. It is hard to believe that this island manages to top the last one!
