Bartolome and Santiago Islands
I can’t believe the week is over! When I think back about the sightings and the experiences shared with new friends made these past days, I feel it’s been longer than that, much longer. But at the same time, it seems it was only yesterday when we saw dozens of black-tip sharks from the Zodiacs around Venice islets, and it was last Saturday. Our guests keep repeating that they will need a vacation after this vacation, and I do believe it, we haven’t had a spare time without experiencing or observing something new and wonderful. Today it was the golden beach; it was the most fantastic view of the Galápagos, from Bartolome highest peak. In the afternoon, we walked over lava flows, on Darwin’s footsteps, along the same paths that he probably followed on San Salvador Island (or Santiago) in 1835. This was the island where he spent most of his time on land, and this is the island the Polaris has adopted. It is good to end the week on a place that we feel like ours, because Lindblad and our guests are responsible for the complete restoration on Santiago. It makes us feel proud, but also happy and optimistic for the future of the Enchanted Islands.
