Genovesa Island

Today we lived one of the most memorable days of our trip and collected memories that we will probably never forget. I am talking about the adventures we had on Genovesa Island.

After a long navigation. we crossed the Equatorial Line once again to arrive to this almost completely pristine island called Tower or Genovesa; from afar it looks like a big deserted rock but from close up life is streaming from it. This small island is visited by hundreds of thousands of birds coming and going throughout the entire day!

The name “Enchanted Islands” did not make much sense until we visited this bewitching place; the animals were so close, so innocent and so careless - almost as if we were in a fantasy land. We saw red-footed boobies wherever we went, frigate birds gliding inches above our hats, tropic birds evading the above-mentioned frigates and of course our ever playful friends, the Galápagos sea lions.

All these animals stared at us, talked to us, yelled at us as if we were just another Galápagos species passing by, or in some of the cases, one of their own! This is one of the memories that will be deeply imprinted in most of us.

We all had many options today: walking, kayaking, cruising… all of these involved being exposed to our very own Galápagos sun, collecting warmth like marine iguanas. Afterwards, we were delighted to go in the water to refresh ourselves with the snorkeling activities!

In the afternoon, some guests decided to stay onboard and enjoy the tranquility of our teak deck but they often were visited by birds that were more curious of our guests than our guests were of them!
