Floreana and Isabela Island
The Evolution laboratory was opened by the sunrise glimpse on Floreana Island. Our guests visit the Post Office Barrel in the early morning to drop mail and get some as well like adventurous sailors did in the past, and became official Galapagos messengers for the world. The hand-deliver mailing tradition hasn’t stop since 1793. During our Zodiac ride, sea lions were posing and playing at “La Loberia,”and surprisingly, we encountered a Galápagos Penguin “flying” in the water in order to get fish. We navigated towards one of the satellite islets from Floreana, Champion, in the late morning, where water activities took place. To meet by chance in the wild the sea lions, sharks, and even a penguin in one place was an unreal feeling to describe. Their aquatic performances can’t be followed, but they clearly showed to us that they like to play. Nevertheless, they demonstrated their aerobic displays at the Glass Bottom Boat, too, as we were enjoying and exploring comfortably the magnificent Underwater world covered by an abundant variety of fish and invertebrates.
By noon, we navigated to Isabela Island in order to see the Giant Tortoises Rearing Center at the serene village with white sand streets, PuertoVillamil. Furthermore, we walked along a boardwalk and identified the changes between the dry and coastal vegetation zones. Additionally, water birds and flamingos were spotted. We also had the chance to expend time in this calm and undisturbed community that live from fishing and some tourism.
What a wonderful day we had combining a natural world with conservation and civilization.
