Bartolome & Santiago Island
This week we have enjoyed with our guests many beautiful days, and every day we had a different experience. We began our day by visiting Santa Cruz Island, observing some blue footed boobies, iguanas and frigate birds. But our guests didn’t know that during the next days, our experience in Galápagos was going to change.
The first full day we explored Espanola Island, an island full of birds and reptiles. Everyone enjoyed every minute on this island watching the passivity of these creatures. Our days then changed from birds to volcanic panorama formations when we visited the youngest island in this archipelago, Fernandina Island. We walked on different formations of lava; personally I enjoyed walking on the long hike along a type of lava formation called the “pahoe- hoe,” or ropy lava, until we encountered a different lava, the “ aa-aa,” or “ouch –ouch” lava. This is a formation with very sharp points of lava.
The days of our trip are ending on a peaceful island. Bartolome Island is very well known for the most beautiful landscapes of this Archipelago. In the afternoon, we visited Santiago Island, where our smallest guests enjoyed playing on the beach and watching the baby sea lions swim in the tidal pools.
We leave the islands as virtually untouched as we first encountered them the first day. We took with us only photos and great memories of this enchanted archipelago.
