Hood Island

What a magnificent day we had on the oldest island in the archipelago! We started out by visiting the westernmost corner of Hood Island, a site named Punta Suarez. Right at the landing place a couple of very curious Galápagos sea lions came very close to inspect us with their big brown inquisitive eyes.

As we walked through the dry coastal vegetation, we encountered lots of Galápagos waved albatrosses. A couple of albatrosses gave us a great show as they were displaying their whole courtship, while others were resting and a few had already laid some eggs.

Our experience was very enjoyable, especially observing lots of new born blue footed boobies, colorful marine iguanas, friendly mocking birds and lots of playful sea lions.

The afternoon at Gardner Bay was full of different options for everybody: we had glass bottom boat outings, deep water snorkeling, beach snorkeling and kayaks. The contrast of colors of the white sand and blue turquoise water was just astonishing as well as the transparency of the water.

We returned aboard for our evening recaps and every one shared their own special moments.
