Espanola Island

I like to talk about this island, as it is my favorite one for the amount of wild life that we always encounter here. Today we walked along the cliffs of Punta Suarez, contemplating the blue-footed boobies, marine iguanas, and also one of our guests’ favorite birds, the waved albatrosses. We saw a good number of them on the trail, and also hundreds of them floating on the surface and flying over us, It was a great experience!

At the afternoon, we disembarked in Gardner bay which is a paradisiacal beach with very fine and shining white sand. It was covered with Galápagos sea lions. It was quite funny today when a sea lion chose a guest towel to sleep on and spent the rest of the afternoon on the towel without caring at all about us, until it was time to leave the beach. Then we had to pull the towel trying not to wake him up. The sea lion did wake up, looked a little upset for a while, but continued sleeping after the towel episode as if nothing had happed.

The rest of our guests chose to go snorkeling and they enjoyed a lot watching different types of Galápagos fish as well as sharks and rays.

We didn’t want to return on board; the beauty of this place caught us. The sea lions observed us taking the Zodiacs, moving away from their territory. Maybe they are hoping to see us again next week to share their magical place with us.
