Genovesa Island
This island has the biggest population of red footed boobies of this archipelago. Today we explored the caldera of this volcano. It was great to walk along the beach and see the many different birds with red colors like the red-footed boobies, the frigate birds with their red gular pouches, and also the swallow-tailed gulls with their beautiful red eyes.
After the walk, our guests decided to go for a refreshing bath along the walls of this caldera, where we saw innumerous schools of fish. I also heard that some of our younger guests were very exited when they saw white tip reef sharks swimming in the area.
At mid day we kayaked, and in the afternoon, we decided to explore the top of this volcano with a very relaxed walk enjoying the birds’ behavior.
As soon as we thought that we had seen it all, a very strange bird appeared at the top of a Palos Santo tree. It did not have red feet, but it sounded like a red footed booby. It was a red footed booby but without the right pigmentation on its feet, which were yellowish, as was its beak.
We are not sure if this red-footed booby is going to find a mate, because it is the only one we know that looks like it. We only had one report of this bird two years ago, and luckily we saw it today.
