Española Island
Today we disembarked in Española Island at a point called Punta Suarez. This is the only place in Galápagos where waved albatrosses nest with about thirty thousand pairs of albatrosses living and nesting in this island.
We are in the middle of the breeding season, and today we had the great opportunity to see some of them seating on their nest and also dancing with their couples. This species of albatross stays here in the Galápagos until the last days of December. After that month, all of them migrate to the south, more than three thousand miles to the coast of Chile following the cold current of Humboldt.
These birds spend about four months in the open ocean without touching any land. Isn’t that amazing? The only place where they land after that long journey is here, in the Galápagos Islands.
In the afternoon, we disembarked on a beach formed of white coral covered with black stones. We thought that they were black stones, but the truth is, they were sea lions resting on the sand all along the beach. Our youngest guests had a great time swimming and snorkeling but also building sand castles that were surrounded by sea lions.
This beach is unique here in Galápagos. Every time that we disembark here we feel the peace and the beauty of this archipelago.
