Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino
All the diverse activities that we have participated in today made our expedition around the Galápagos Islands a very special one. A walk around Cerro Dragon was our first activity of the day. This visitors’ site is located in the northwestern part of Santa Cruz Island. A beautiful blue sky and the sun shining at its brightest were our company during the whole walk. At this time of the year this location looks glorious, for there is a magical combination of colors in the area; the vegetation is unusually bright green as a result of the rainy season. The soil of the area is reddish, which makes a great contrast with the young black lava flows found surrounding the nearby white sand beach. Many land iguanas live in this area; these reptiles show a beautiful combination of orange, yellow and brown shades. Yellow wild flowers and impressive tall cacti are found all around. After the hot walk it was very refreshing to go to the water. We went out for our first snorkeling of the day to Guy Fawkes Islets. Ravishing commentaries of joy and admiration proved that this underwater adventure was highly successful.
In the afternoon we continued with our adventures. This time the location was Sombrero Chino. This painteresque small volcanic cone has a curious shape that resembles a Chinese Hat. Snorkeling was great! Kayaking along the coastline was no less extraordinary. Some of our guests decided to spend time on a little white beach that was made out of coral. Others went for a Zodiac ride exploring the surrounding lava flows and its hidden life.
Late in the afternoon we all came back onboard with the satisfaction of having spent a complete and active day in paradise.
