Bartholomew and Santiago Islands

This has been our last full day of our expedition in the enchanted island and indeed we have seen and done a lot; today we began our day very early to enjoy the volcanic landscape of this small island located just off the eastern corner of Santiago. This is an open book of geology due to the large amount of cones and lava flows here and there. Later in the morning we got ashore on a golden beach for water activities such as glass bottom boat, swimming from the beach and snorkeling along the shore line which has a gorgeous topography, and conditions were terrific today, calm water, great visibility and a high variety of fish. This is due to seven major oceanic currents that bathe the islands, which create an unusual assemblage of over 500 species all together making a very special place to snorkel.

In the afternoon we repositioned the Polaris for our final outing in James Bay; walking along the shore lines of this place is like having a summary of the whole week, marine iguanas sun bathing, sally light food crabs feeding on algae, shore bids here and there and our ever friends Galápagos sea lions. We all came back with the last rays of a beautiful sunset leaving behind in the horizon the profiles of the volcanoes of Isabela Island.
