Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino
When we think we have seen it all, we land on a different island and a new world is presented in front of our eyes. This morning it was the world of land iguanas, a site with giant cactus and holy trees, with finches and warblers; but the kings and queens were the dragon-like reptiles, therefore the name of this area is Dragon Hill. After the walk where we encountered several iguanas, many of our guests headed north, in the Zodiacs, to explore the underwater realm around Guy Fawkes, a tuff cone with impressive marine life.
Before arriving to our afternoon destination, Chinese Hat, we went to the sky deck to look for the elusive flamingoes that live inside one of the tuff cones of Bainbridge Islets. We briefly spotted at least thirty of them from the highest points of the Polaris. Snorkeling in Chinese Hat is like snorkeling, all at once, with most of the underwater creatures that the Galápagos are famous for. There were penguins, sharks, rays, sea stars, shrimps and plenty of fish. Some guests explored the coast by kayak and some by Zodiac. A coast decorated with giant cactus at sunset time looks golden and mysterious.
