Floreana Island We had a refreshing optional early morning wake up call for those troopers who wanted to experience the romantic tradition of the post office barrel on Floreana Island. We landed on a sandy beach and went through a series of mail left in the barrel, took some of it to be hand delivered in our areas back home and left our own to find out when and how it will make it. For sure some of us are going to make some interesting new friends. Placed there in 1793, this wine barrel has been an effective post service for several centuries. Once back on board the Polaris and after a well deserved breakfast, we geared up for our second outing of the morning; snorkelling at Champion Islet was a wonderful time shared with colourful tropical fish, sharks, and playful sea lions. In the afternoon we shared the joy of watching the marvellous very pink Galapagos flamingos feeding in their brackish lagoon. Golden rays and a couple of sea turtles, waiting for their turn to lay their eggs were waiting for us at the white beach at the northern side of Punta Cormorant.
