Espanola Island
Our first full day in the Galápagos finds us in Española Island, one of the most impressive ones of the archipelago, it always brings a surprise.
We start off the day by disembarking in Punta Suarez which is a visitor site that takes us to the waved albatross; we were the first witnesses of their arrival as they have an annual migration, yes! They are here!
Blue-footed and Nazca boobies were also all around us; female marine iguanas were digging their nests, lava lizards courting; pup sea lions nursing while the bull patrolled his territory, but all of us feel welcome as the “tameness” of these creatures invites us to coexist with them.
The site, a platform paved with boulders which rose from the sea and a thunder like sound advises ahead, is the Española blow hole; blue sky and bright equatorial sun were our props, our surroundings.
A refreshing cool breeze caresses our damped skin. Sounds of waves, sea lions and a bird triggered all our senses.
Now we are back on board for an exquisite equatorial lunch as our captain repositions the ship to our next site, Gardner bay.
Here, our expedition leader presents an array of options to tailor our outing; from deep water snorkeling to glass bottom boat, from kayaks to shallow water snorkeling lessons or just a beach towel so we could sit on an outstanding long white sandy beach surrounded by sea lions and turquoise waters, what a day.
Our impression for this day is hard to describe, you simply have to be here to feel it, there are so many wonderful experiences that some of our guests are already wondering what it would be for the next days.
Our expedition has just started and it promises to become an experience which will remain in our hearts for a life time.
