Hood Island

We had a great, amazing day on the oldest island of the archipelago where we encountered some unique species of animals and plants not only of the Galápagos Islands but of this island in particular. There we found the several curious Hood mockingbirds that came close to inspect us and all of our belongings, while some colorful Galápagos marine iguanas were sunbathing and getting ready to graze some alga underwater.

Some of the most beautiful landscapes of the archipelago can be found on this gorgeous island which is well known for its impressive cliffs on the southern side of the island.

We witnessed some amazing landings as well as take offs by the very graceful Galápagos waved albatross, others were courting and some are already incubating their eggs.

There were also some Galápagos hawks looking for unattended booby chicks or Hood lava lizards.

The afternoon was dedicated to snorkeling, kayaking, or going on our glass bottom boat to look at the underwater world. The shoreline was covered by Galápagos sea lions that were resting literally on top of each other and looked very cozy.

We had a great time talking about the different highlights of our day and looking forward to see what explorations we have waiting for us tomorrow.
