Floreana Island

We had an optional early morning wake up call to visit the Post Office Barrel Bay in Floreana Island. We disembarked at 6:45am and more than eighty per cent of our troopers came on the outing! The Polaris anchored in the historical bay where pirates, whalers, buccaneers together with the first human settlers anchored back ever since the late sixteen hundreds.

Misty fresh early morning dew accompanied us on our first morning outing. A lonely, cute little Galápagos penguin, several marine turtles, their tracks and a couple of their nests were also the delight for our expert photographers. After breakfast, we again disembarked to go snorkeling around Champion islet. Lots of large schools with different species of fish, a young red footed booby trying to land on one of our oars were also enjoyed by snorkelers and glass bottom boaters. Towards the end of the morning we had another outing for mockingbird watching around Champion.

After lunch, the Polaris sailed around Enderby islet in the search of flying red-footed boobies. The afternoon emphasis was Floreanas’s human history, kayaking and a hike to see the Galápagos (very) pink flamingo, the olive green and the white flowery beach. What a great day we had at the charming Floreana Island!
