Española Island
After a smooth trip over night we anchored off Española Island to start our expedition at Punta Suarez, for a walk along sea bird colonies.
Española is home to several types of unique organisms, among them we have the emblematic waved albatross that arrives and nests every year in large numbers. This is the only type of albatross that occurs entirely in the tropics.
The large colony of Nazca Boobies is at this time of the year covered in birds of all ages, and very close to the path.
Our morning walk was spectacular as we discovered the beauties of this paradise, especially to behold the courtship display of the blue-footed boobies and shortly afterwards the albatross’s courtship that delighted us and became the highlight of the outing. This small island can be considered a jewel in the crown!!!
Later on we repositioned the ship and after a delicious Ecuadorian lunch we headed to Gardner bay that happens to be the most beautiful beach in the Galápagos. The bay is home to the hundreds of sea lions - among them dozens of pups running along the beach and playing with the visitors!
One of the many options included snorkeling around Gardner islet. Once there we were welcomed by a group of playful young sea lions that showed us their swimming skills as we discovered the undersea world among large schools of colorful tropical fish. Just amazing and we're still waiting for more!
