Bartolomé & Santiago Islands

Early in the morning we started our day anchored close to Bartolomé Island. Here we disembarked after our optional early wake-up call, our destination 312 feet in altitude for an amazing view, the famous Pinnacle Rock. 372 steps comprising a wooden staircase helped us get there. So the guests could either endeavor to be as fast as a “Galápagos stair-master,” or another option was to stroll along instead, and learn of the “open book of geology” while our naturalist explained its features.

Back on board for our breakfast and soon after, water activities were available like swimming, snorkeling, and glass bottom boat; our guests had the opportunity to observe performances from our Galápagos penguins close to shore and underwater, there were also white-tipped reef sharks, parrotfish and many more animals everywhere. Some of us just stayed at the beach, soaking up the equatorial sun.

Our next destination was Santiago Island where we started with our last snorkel; some of our younger guests went to a platform-like field, where they played football or soccer as you might know it. Our walk started soon after. We saw fur seals, Sally Lightfoot crabs, iguanas, birds, and landscapes.

This was our last full day in the Galápagos; our guests bonded and realized we are all one with nature. We must not make a dissection from the invisible lace which attaches us to it, but instead, embrace them with all our might: we are one. We are also now ambassadors of a place which is hard to define by words.

For all and especially our younger guests, we of the Galápagos hope to see you soon.

Our expedition has come to an end but the memories of this place will remain with us for a lifetime.
