Española Island
Blue-footed dancing day.
It was the phrase which our guests have employed on the island today; we saw a great number of these birds on Española island, the activity of breeding just having started this month, all the males are ready to find a partner and we saw almost all of them doing the ritual and the famous blue-footed boobies' dance.
The way how they started was lifting their feet from side to side, whistling to the sky and searching for a female; ones this female lands close by, the male makes a nice contour in it’s body stretching their wings to their side and putting it’s tail to the highest point to the sky called the “sky pointed”, it really is a show to see this performance that they do to impress the female.
Some of them impress them already some months ago and now they have some beautiful cottony looking baby boobies.
Española island is also impressive because this is the home for the waved albatross; today we had the opportunity to have a close encounter with these impressive sea birds which were oblivious to our presence. A blow hole from we saw a powerful might from the humble current, some of us decide to get close to it with a panga ride were
After this walk we all came back on board to prepare for the next activity at the afternoon that happened mainly in the water.
At the afternoon we prepared the Kayaks and the glass bottom boat, but also some of us choose to do the deep water snorkel where we have the opportunity to play with some baby sea lions, or just rest on a coralline beach.
We end our day on board with a striking cocktail in front of us, prepared by our bartender; it was the blue-footed booby cocktail. He told us that if we partook in more than one, we will start dancing like a real blue-footed booby and even do the “sky point”.
