Floreana Island
Today we started early in the morning to visit one of the historical places in Galápagos, called the Post Office Bay; t was a place used by whalers in the seventeen hundreds.
In the present day it is used as a visitor site. Here, we continue with the sailors' tradition and the mailing system keeps on working with our guests: we left some letters and some of us took letters to be had delivered also.
After this visit, Polaris took us to one of the nicest places for snorkeing in Galápagos: Champion island. There we saw a giant school of different species of fish, and sea lions all over. Also some of us had a closer encounter with sharks; the positive aspect here is that the sharks are so peaceful from the amount of food that they find on the island, that we are allowed to spend a length of time observing.
After lunch we prepare our walking shoes to disembark in a different place called the Cormorant’s Point. We did not see any cormorants there, but we saw an amazing bird with a bright pink color resting in a glassy lagoon. The flamingos from Galápagos are different than others, firstly for this coloration that we don’t see in other species, but also because of their passivity. We were very close to these wild animals and they didn’t fly away, it was something to behold…
Passing this lagoon we arrive to a different landscape with white sand. This is where the marine turtles nest every year. We walked right beside their nest and saw in the ocean, some of them waiting for the darkness to come back to the beach to lay their eggs for the season.
Walking along the sea shore we saw also some Sally Lightfoot crabs that really called our attention for their bright coloration and their contrast against the lava rocks.
We had a nice time at the beach, relaxing and observing the turtles and the ocean and the passivity of this place.
