Isabela & Fernandina Islands

It is 6:15 in the morning and we are slowly circumnavigating Rounded Rock, an eroded volcano that serves as a resting spot for sea birds that come from afar to feed in its surroundings waters; since this place is really deep and has a lot of upwelling we could observe two sperm whales.

Continuing with our navigation we crossed the equator line as we went back to the southern hemisphere, we arrived to our destination, Punta Vicente Roca, located right at the bases of Ecuador Volcano on the Island of Isabela, here our guests had the opportunity to go on a coastal exploration aboard our fleet of Zodiacs. This is the best site to find the two only flightless birds of the Galápagos, penguins and cormorants, we encountered many. In addition, we found ocean sun fish and a gigantic manta ray.

After our Zodiac ride we went back on board to gear up for our snorkeling outing, everyone was exited about this because this site is one of the best places in the Galápagos to snorkel with pacific green sea turtles so we took the zodiacs and went on the search of them; as soon as we arrived to the snorkeling spot we could see many sea turtles waiting for us, so we jumped in the water and had a close encounter with them.

Once we were done with all our morning activities we needed to load up on more energy, so we had lunch. When some of our guests were about to have a siesta, the Captain spotted whales from the breach during the navigation to the Island of Fernandina, immediately we went to see them with our Zodiacs, there were at least thirty pilot whales around us - we had a great time and we came back with no space for more pictures on our memory cards.

Later in the afternoon we landed on Punta Espinoza, located on the north-eastern corner of Fernandina Island. Coming to this site you could realize that still there are places like this in the world, with such a special flora and fauna that remain fully protected.

We went on a hike along the coastal part and saw many flightless cormorants nesting, a bunch of marine iguanas sun bathing and many more things that made our visit really unique.
