Española Island
We started our expedition with a walk on the rocky terrain of Española Island, the southern most island of the archipelago. At this time of the year in the Galápagos we are experiencing the cool garúa (mist) season. Today was a little cloudy but nothing wrong with that, since the air temperature felt very pleasant. This small island is home for many “out of the ordinary” animals: marine iguanas, Darwin finches, waved albatrosses, Galápagos doves, blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies, Galápagos sea lions, among some other creatures. The true stars of the day were the waved albatrosses, though. We watched many couples on land, some of them were performing their elaborate courtship dance and that was really captivating!
In the afternoon we visited Gardner bay and fully enjoyed all the different activities. Many of our guests went for a peaceful stroll on the coralline beach and found many sea lions resting on it. They were for sure the favorite for many of us, but especially for our younger guests. We also encouraged our guests to kayak along the shore line of the bay, since that is definitely a wonderful experience.
Some other guests discovered the underwater world whilst snorkeling or from the glass bottom boat. This afternoon the snorkeling was really great and observed many colorful fish; we also had the great opportunity to swim with playful sea lions.
We all loved very much not only the fascinating wildlife but also the beautiful landscapes as well. The Galápagos archipelago is truly one the most spectacular places to visit in the world.
