The marine life of the Galapagos is exceptionally rich for the tropics. The combination of cool upwelling waters in some parts and warm tropical waters in others allows for an astonishing diversity of marine creatures. The Galapagos Islands have an interesting mix of tropical and temperate climate type of fish. Water temperatures are known to fluctuate from a cool 57ºF to a warm 84ºF, depending of the time of the year and the site. This morning during our snorkeling outing we got to see and enjoy the wonders of the Galapagos marine ecosystem. We saw different schools of fish, like this streamer hogfish showing in the picture, besides big stingrays, white tipped reef sharks and some of us were even lucky to see a turtle and an octopus.
