Floreana Island

The landscape is beautiful and the sunrise was perfect: we are in Floreana Island, Galápagos. There is nothing that could go wrong on a day like this. Even though the earliest morning outing from the ship was scheduled for six thirty in the morning, the most eager of our guests were ready for landing way before that. The assurance of a new exciting experience in this enchanted archipelago is the only promise that we can make to our guests. Galápagos is probably one of the very few places that you could make a promise like that and ensure it comes true with minimum effort.

Our landing this morning was partly oriented towards the strange human history of the islands, related to the early visitors and settlers in this region. Post Office Bay is officially the name of the area where we landed. Only few yards away from the sandy beach the post office barrel remained erected ready to receive the letters of the new visitors. It was in the late 1700s that we believe the first barrel was erected. Its main purpose was to keep the sailors in these waters in touch with their faraway families. There are probably tons of histories lost in time and space about it, all what we know is that the trusty barrel held in the past times a lot of letters written with hope, joy and lots and lots of tears.

Later on this day, well fed by an exuberant breakfast of course, we departed for more excursions: our aim to explore the underwater world of Champion Island.

There is not a single soul on board that didn’t enjoy a water related activity today. It could have been the snorkeling itself, the Zodiac rides to see the sea lion colonies and birds or the glass bottom boat for those who wanted to see the fish while staying dry, but there is not a single face on this ship that wasn’t smiling after having any of those experiences.

Later on the day we departed to Punta Cormorant where, to our surprise, we found flamingos very close to shore and even a marine turtle that made her way up to the sand dunes in the late afternoon to start a long journey: digging a hole to lay her eggs.

We promise you a new day, one more adventure, one (or many) new smile(s), a beautiful sunset and one big reason to hope for a new day, you are in the Galápagos Islands… (if that is not enough, go and see the hotel manager please!)
