Española Island

What a great way to start an adventure like this. We are in the Galápagos, on Española Island. Beautiful blue skies wherever our eyes look. Nice waves splashing at the cliffs at the distance, it is a pretty day; it is a good day to start!

Not too long after breakfast our guests tied on their best hiking shoes and departed to encounter one of the most exiting areas in the Galápagos. Punta Suarez is the spot, and the amount of fauna found here is amazing. Sea lions hurried up to greet us right at our landing site and the marine iguanas…well, you won’t even believe it! The incredible red and sometimes turquoise colors that are displayed by these marine reptiles are at their best, since we are in the middle of their breeding season. Dozens of these giant marine lizards were encountered along the path, courting, displaying territorial behaviors and even digging holes to lay eggs.

The island offered different options for everyone. Short and long walks with beautiful landscapes that make everyone click their cameras in unison.

The highlight of the trip was definitely the first sighting of waved albatross on the island. There were only two, but that marks the beginning of the season and that is a real highlight.

Later in the afternoon the snorkeling presented itself as the right option to take. The water was inviting and we all gladly accepted the invitation. The marine ecosystem of the Galápagos is unique for many reasons and today we confirmed why. Schools of fish were found as soon as we jumped in the water and the warm temperature of the water made this snorkeling very enjoyable. We are having fun, we are in the Galápagos and our experience is just starting…
