Bartolome and Santiago Islands

We had an amazing morning in the Galápagos, with the opportunity of having some aerobic exercise before breakfast, and a wonderful snorkeling outing afterwards. Bartolome received us with mobula rays jumping out of the water. For at least one hour while we hiked up the steps, these creatures continued with their acrobatics, and whenever we tried to pay attention to the amazing landscape composed primarily of spatter cones and lavas, the rays jumped again to steal the show. Our younger guests enjoyed playing in the sand, making sand castles and rolling over. Everyone explored the underwater world either through his or her snorkeling mask or through the glass bottom boat. A pelican paid us a visit on the golden beach, where guests were fascinated by ghost crabs and the windy and beautiful seas.

The afternoon found us in James Island, where the snorkeling was, once again, very rewarding, with a few green sea turtles and colorful fish. But walking on the island where Darwin spent most of his time while in the Galápagos made us all feel like little Darwins ourselves, and we explored the tidal pools with sally light-foot crabs and marine iguanas, lots of shore birds and again a magnificent view. Galápagos is just a wonderful place, a place we have enjoyed to the most this week.
