Floreana Island

We woke up today anchored at post office bay; the ocean was calm and clear like a mirror, full of sea turtles and penguins. During the early morning activities our guests had a close encounter with the Floreana human history while visiting the post office barrel placed here in 1793. The idea was that sailors would drop their letters addressed to their families back in their hometowns into the barrel. Then, others who were heading back through those towns on their voyages would deliver the letters for them. The tradition still continues and our guests went to visit the area to pick up some of the post cards and eventually deliver them.

Still during the morning we headed to Champion islet for swimming and snorkeling activities, here we had one of the most wonderful experiences swimming with very playful and curious sea lions and colorful tropical fish.

After our typical Ecuadorian lunch and a mandatory siesta, we spent the rest of the afternoon on another visitor site of Floreana, Punta Cormorant, here we had a pleasant walk looking for flamingos and some of the Darwin finches, finally we ended up on a coralline white sandy beach, where we just sat to enjoy the beautiful colors of the ocean. It was another great day in paradise!
