Bartolomé and Santiago Islands
Today we started our journey in the central area of the Galápagos with an outstanding pre-breakfast excursion to the top of Bartolomé Island, where the view is just amazing; along the way we were able to observe some signs of the old volcanic activity and the way some early colonizers begin their process on lava flows, such as the lava cactus and lichens. As we finished with our walk we returned aboard for a delicious breakfast.
After a delightful breakfast on our outer decks, we headed towards the island once more for some wonderful options, including some glass bottom boat outings during which our guests saw lots of fish, sea stars, sea urchins, and even penguins! In the meantime, others went snorkeling around the pinnacle rock and had a wonderful time there, while yet more of us went for a stroll along the beach and across a sand dune to visit the other side of Bartolomé – here something really unusual happened, as some guests had an octopus trying to climb their feet! Everyone had a wonderful time as they combined the different options in their own way.
Our afternoon visit was to Santiago Island, which is a very beautiful place with wonderful scenery and great snorkeling too. We walked along the shoreline of Puerto Egas and found baby sea lions, marine iguanas, Galápagos fur seals, lots of shore birds and an absolutely amazing sunset. This was a wonderful day in paradise and a great opportunity to enrich our experiences in Galápagos.
