Bartolome and Santiago Islands
An amazing week is unfortunately coming to an end. We will remember this particular trip forever. Last Saturday, just hours after our guests arrived to the Galápagos, we all witnessed a volcanic eruption (please check our daily expeditions report from last Monday).
Sierra Negra volcano on Isabela Island is still erupting. Needless to say, this fantastic and unusual event has been not only the event of the week but the event of the year. It is so exciting that we keep talking over and over about it. Obviously nothing can beat the eruption, but the beauty of every single island on its own way is just parallel to estrange fascination that the volcanic eruption has provoked. As proof of what I wrote, just take a look at today’s picture. We observed from our glass bottom boat a group of Galápagos penguins…mating! A few minutes later, a couple of Galápagos sea lions decided to sunbathe close to them. This sighting was not only amusing but truly delightful.
There is a kind of magic floating in the air in this remote and paradisiacal group of islands. Today has not been the exception. Bartolome Island with its magical combination of volcanic earthy colors, pure blue skies, and turquoise waters, is the closest representation of a dream that comes true.
Santiago Island, our afternoon’s visit, has become an example of the conservation efforts in the archipelago. In summary, this week has been unforgettable, because it has provided us with unique feelings and memories. Some guests have commented that they have just made the trip of their life times, and it is a great feeling of satisfaction to receive such nice feedback.
