Bartolome Island

The Galápagos archipelago is one of the ultimate paradises on Earth. This week (which by the way is coming to an end today) constitutes a tangible proof of the latter statement. There is a genuine kind of mystery almost like magic floating in the air that surrounds this isolated group of islands. Bartolome Island, with its delightful combination of breathtaking volcanic formations and vibrant colors, represents the wildest dream you could imagine.

The big array of colors that we can see in the Galápagos is both astonishing and inspirational. Both fish underwater and the birds on land provide us with a huge diversity of colors. Good examples of this are the beautiful parrotfish and the striking coloration of the vermillion flycatcher on land. Another good example of the range in colorations could be appreciated on the beaches. The color of the sand goes from purest white to green, brown, black, golden and even red.

Today, as I was wondering on the tide pools of the Island of Bartolome, the sally light footed crab (Grapsus grapsus), was the one that grabbed my attention. This gorgeous invertebrate is the king when it comes to colors in the Galápagos. Just take a look at the picture from today, beautiful isn’t it?
