Floreana Island
Floreana, also called Charles Island, is a place full of mysteries. Back in the 1920s, a couple from Germany decided to live in a totally isolated place far from the normal world. They choose the Galápagos and traveled all the way from Europe to establish here on these enchanted islands attracted by this totally uninhabited land.
They didn’t have the basic services that were provided back in civilized cities, like water or electricity, but they were looking for simple lives, such as the ones found in the Robinson Crusoe tales.
After only a couple of years of solitude, a second family arrived with the same intentions, seeking a nice, serene and isolated place to raise their children and farm the land. Heaven did not exist for this family since the first couple transformed their lives in living nightmare.
History tells that a third group of people, formed by three men and one woman (lovers apparently) arrived to Floreana and took over the island. One of them, the only female of the group, proclaimed herself “the Baroness and the Queen of the Galápagos!” Her intentions were to build a five star hotel-casino for rich people traveling around the world looking for fun and gambling.
To make this story short, some of the characters on this narration started to disappear in a rather strange way. First it was the so called Baroness, then one by one her lovers, and by the end of the story, only very few of these characters survived! Did I intrigue you enough? There have been several books written about what happened back in those times, but not all the details have been revealed. Some of those books have been written by the very survivors of this saga, and I am just hoping that the creators of “all my children” never found these books, or we would see the story on TV soon…
By the way, the picture shows the two characters that started it all…Dr. Frederick Ritter and Dora Strauss, Galápagos, 1920s .
