Floreana Island
Today we arrived very early in the morning to one of the first islands colonized by people, Floreana Island.
This island was very popular during the buccaneer times and also during the eighteen hundreds. After that, not many people liked to live here any longer. One of the reasons was because the people started to disappear, and therefore the island got the name of the mystery island.
Nowadays, the number of people that live on Floreana is a hundred at the most; and most are fishermen and farmers.
At about six in the morning, we disembarked at a place called Post office bay. Some of us left post cards, continuing the ancient tradition of buccaneers. We accompanied this outing with a glamorous boat ride around some small islets, where we saw a good amount of birds and sea lion pups.
After breakfast, we were swimming and snorkeling in Champion Island where we saw a variety of tropical fish, turtles and sharks. Our guests that decided to go to the glass bottom boat had a great time also; they enjoyed watching the sea lions through the glass panel. When all of us thought that the morning was over, we had a great surprise! A big pod of dolphins appeared close to the ship, about four hundred of them. It was so exciting that we decided to take all the Zodiacs out and have a ride with them. We all enjoyed this particular time with our closer brothers in the sea, great marine mammals doing some jumps and turns in front of the boats.
In the afternoon, we encountered some Galápagos Flamingoes and returned to the Polaris for a beautiful sunset.
