Genovesa Island
We had a great sunny morning today: family groups with their kids enjoyed landing on the small white sandy coralline beach of Darwin Bay, located inside the caldera of Genovesa Island, which is an extinct volcano. Thousands of marine birds could be seen performing their magnificent flying displays. Among them we observed Great frigate birds with cleptoparasitic behavior, stealing food from other marine birds. We walked through sea bird colonies and observed nests with juvenile chicks, panting in order to cool off, due to the heat of the bright morning.
Next, we went on to the beach where a refreshing bath was waiting for us. The water here is so clear because there is no pollution. Some challengers went to snorkel in the deep waters, and enjoyed the Fur sea lions company.
Back at the ship some guests had the option of kayaking, which is a new adventure onboard Lindblad Expedition’s ships in Galápagos. We have had many takers who enjoyed exploring the cliffs crowded with life at their own pace, paddling along.
After lunch we were ready for exploring the island again at three o’clock. We disembarked at Prince Phillip’s steps, and went to search for some more wildlife while having a spectacular view of the landscape along these volcanic walls.
What a wonderful day we have experienced, and if this was not enough, a charming sunset delighted our souls.
