Genovesa Island

Could you imagine a place where all kinds of beautiful birds are just one step away from you? This is a place where you can walk between bird’s nests, or just sit in the ground and look at their interesting behavior. You could also imagine yourself taking lots of pictures without the need of long lenses. Well, this was our visit today, and the place is called Genovesa Island.

We started our day at Darwin’s Bay, where some of us went for the long walk, while others did a shorter version but just as interesting. It was only few minutes after we landed when we saw our first red footed boobies nesting on a mangrove tree. We were all so excited because we soon realized that there were not only one, but hundreds of them perching on the branches. We took one step further and an incredible amount of frigate birds were now on sight. Not too far from them, a colony of very curious swallow tailed gulls was simply standing on the rocks. The sky was literally covered with all kind of birds, and one that stands out from the others was definitely the red bill tropic bird. Every where you go there was a new sighting. We decided to continue our trail and sort out the colonies of Nazca Bobbies who were literally in the middle of the trail. I tell you, this was like being inside of a National geographic special about birds but much better!

We spent the rest of the morning swimming, snorkeling or simply watching the bird life of the area, or maybe they were watching us…what do you think?
