Bartolome Island
What a wonderful day we all had today!
Embracing the geological array of craters early in the morning, some of us had the opportunity to climb to the top of Bartolome Island where the world famous pinnacle rock is located, what a view, what a pre-breakfast option we had.
But wait… (just when you think you’ve seen it all) what is that picture herein? Is a bottle-nose dolphin, what a treat, you just never know here in the Galápagos, always with surprises, our expedition leader makes a call in the Polaris and by radio to the beach to inform us about passing dolphins in the area, some of us when onto the pangas and sure there they were, what a feeling to have them bow riding the Zodiac an hear their breathing as we see an array of acrobatic jump here and there, just magic, like a playful sea lion who was entertaining itself and our guests, they seem to be on our payroll, they just did not leave until our guest had enough, though “the show must go on”, as they say.
As we reposition our captain drops the anchor for our next visitor site, Puerto Egas in the island of Santiago. Low tide at the grottos formed with a dramatic display of lava and compacted volcanic ash, this is home for the fur seals. Our last chance for colorful crabs, birds, mammals, reptiles and landscapes, by now our guests are pros when it comes to naming them. Some of us sat down to listen and observe our surroundings before we say “hasta luego, Galápagos.”
Our expedition is over; there are hundreds of memories and many new friends. One of our guests suggested to all to comeback to this wonderful place like his wife and himself did in a different season, we were glad a secret mutiny (from our guests) was call off, so we will be here waiting for some of our new friends.
