Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino

We started another wonderful day in the enchanted islands. The equatorial sun shines as it rises with warmth and caresses the ocean giving a gentle cool morning breeze, we are in Cerro dragon; this site is located at the north-western part of Santa Cruz Island is the home for land iguanas and an impressive forest of cacti.

Dry landing on a jetty allowed us to step directly onto this surreal world; some of us went straight for a walk while others decided to disembark at a small beach. Land iguanas were in their natural state, surrounded by very interesting landscape. Boulders and paths with brown rust-like colours transform suddenly into lush green by a breakage lagoon which sustains certain life: birds, high salinity tolerant plants and further out prickly pear cacti. This one and a half mile stretch makes this place comfortable and the walk long enough to enjoy our outing.

We all came back and our captain allowed us to jump from the ship which was extremely fun, most families on board had a representative out there taking a leap for excitement's sake.

Polaris continues onward to our next destination; Sombrero Chino is the site. Our ship anchors while we are surrounded by eroded tuff cones, or small islands which once were a mighty volcano; soon we started in on water activities. Some of us went snorkelling or simply to relax on the beach. Kayakers as well had a great opportunity to try and reveal their closeness to nature by becoming one with it.

Our sun sets while we are all on board sharing this magical experience.

Our expedition is about to end, we know this place will stay in our hearts for a lifetime.
